Role Title: Data Protection Officer

Salary : Up to £45,000 per annum dependent on experience

As the data protection officer your role is to ensure British Cycling’s compliance with data protection and privacy laws, developing and improving the organisation’s processing of personal data to demonstrate best practice and to maintain the trust of our customers, partners and funders.

About you

  • Expert knowledge of data protection and privacy regulations and their application in a business setting, including General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act 2018
  • A data protection qualification
  • Experience of developing data protection policies and procedures and monitoring and advising on compliance
  • Experience of conducting data protection audits and working with others constructively, persuasively and promptly to address adverse findings
  • Good knowledge of information security
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement when interacting with internal stakeholders
  • Experience of delivering training and guidance to a diverse audience

What will you be doing?

  • Developing and delivering data protection training to staff and maintain staff awareness of data protection issues and best practice.
  • Developing and maintaining data protection policies, procedures and privacy notices, and raise awareness of the policies and notices with the relevant audiences.
  • Maintaining British Cycling’s records of processing as required under GDPR and manage the organisation's registration with the Information Commissioner's Office.
  • Managing and responding to data subject requests in line with relevant statutory timescales and respond to ad hoc queries from our members and clubs relating to privacy issues.
  • Undertaking assessment of the organisation's compliance with data protection regulation using the ICO accountability framework and ad hoc audits. Distil the results of compliance assessments to develop an action plan to improve personal data processing and monitor ongoing compliance.
  • Liaising with members of the Technology and Information Governance Advisory Group on management of data breach incidents and advise the Senior Information Risk Owner on notification of breaches to the regulatory authority or to data subjects.
  • Compiling and delivering a quarterly update on data protection and organisational compliance to the Executive Leadership Team and the Audit and Assurance Committee.
