Major Events Lead (Operations)

Role Title: Major Events Lead (Operations) – Maternity Cover

Salary: Up to £37,500 (or £30,000 per annum based on a 4-day working week) per annum (dependent on experience).

Place of work: Manchester         

This is a maternity cover post so will be offered on a fixed term basis of up to 12 months.

About the role

As Major Events Lead, you will be a key part of the major events team, supporting the operational delivery of British Cycling Events’ growing event portfolio, working across a variety of events and disciplines you will be at the beating heart of our event delivery team.

About you

  • You have experience in sport event management and are looking to take a leading operational role in event delivery.
  • You have strong organisation and communication skills, with an ability to work effectively on your own and as part of a team.

  • You show initiative and can work across multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines at once.
  • You are a solution focussed collaborator who is comfortable in high-energy team environments – you are pro-active and have a can-do attitude.
  • You are excited to influence how our events are delivered and are open to innovation and bring new ideas with you.
  • You can calmly make decisions under pressure to short timelines.
  • While knowledge of cycle sport is preferable and passion for the sport even more desirable, what makes you stand out is your drive to be the best at what you do, remaining proactive in your approach to your work.
  • A good level of general education, preferably degree level or equivalent
  • Display a high degree of computer proficiency

What will you be doing?

  • Working at operational level, in a small evolving team, you will support the delivery of British Cycling’s Major Events portfolio.
  • You will work across functional areas during the planning, set-up, delivery, breakdown and closedown of our major events across disciplines.  
  • You will lead event planning meetings, reporting on progress, budget management and preparedness.
  • You will lead event review processes and play a key role in improving operational efficiencies and excellence.
  • You will foster positive internal and external relationships, representing British Cycling’s values with hosts, venues, major event partners, sponsors and key suppliers.
  • Liaise with event delivery partners, suppliers and contractors to develop plans in the lead-up to and take a leadership role on event, acting as the main point of contact for many.
  • You will lead operational delivery functional areas such as:
    • Accreditation
    • Budget Management and Oversight
    • Catering
    • Competition, Sport and Technical 
    • Equipment and Logistics
    • Hospitality and Guest services
    • Project Management
    • Sport Presentation
    • Team and Athlete Services
    • Travel and Accmmodation
    • Venue Operations and Overlay
    • Workforce and Volunteers
