Independent Non-Executive Director – Commercial
Grand Départ GB 2027 Ltd
Independent Non-Executive Director – Commercial
In 2027 the UK will host the Grand Départ of both the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. This will be the first time in history that both races have departed from the same country outside of France. A landmark social impact programme will also be delivered across the UK, tackling inactivity, improving mental wellbeing, boosting economic growth and supporting communities to thrive.
A Special Purpose Vehicle – Grand Départ GB 2027 Ltd – will maintain oversight of the delivery of the events and manage public funding on behalf of DCMS, Scottish Government, Welsh Government and UK Sport. The SPV is a joint venture between UK Events Limited and British Cycling.
We are now seeking to appoint an Independent Non-Executive Director with strong commercial expertise to join the Board of Grand Départ GB 2027 Ltd. This is a high-profile opportunity to support the successful delivery of one of the biggest free-to-watch sporting events ever staged in the UK, while helping to create long-term value and legacy for cycling, communities and major events.
What will you be doing?
You will provide independent, strategic and constructive Board leadership, with particular responsibility for strengthening commercial strategy, testing income and partnership plans, and supporting decisions that balance revenue, value, risk, reputation, public interest and long-term legacy.
You will bring specialist commercial challenge and advice across areas such as sponsorship, partnerships, rights, and partner management, where relevant to the company’s remit.
You will help the Board test commercial assumptions, understand dependencies between commercial commitments and operational delivery, and ensure commercial decisions protect the integrity and reputation of the event.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with significant senior leadership experience in commercial strategy, business development, partnerships, sponsorship, rights, revenue growth or a closely related discipline. You will have strong financial and commercial acumen, experience of working with Boards or Committees, and a sound understanding of the duties and responsibilities of a company director.
Experience of major sporting or public-facing events would be highly valuable, particularly where you have worked across commercial plans, stakeholder relationships, sponsorship, rights, procurement, contracts or strategic partnerships in a complex and timebound environment.
You will be independent, values-led and collaborative, able to challenge constructively while supporting high-quality decision-making in a high-profile environment. A commitment to inclusion, sustainability, integrity and positive legacy will be essential.
Position is likely to be required until December 2027
